Energy Savings Scheme in NSW

Maximize Your Business's Savings and Sustainability with the NSW Energy Savings Scheme

Are you looking to reduce your business's operating costs, achieve the best return on investment (ROI), and contribute to a sustainable future? The NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) offers a perfect solution. By providing financial incentives for the installation of energy-efficient equipment, the ESS helps businesses save on costs, achieve impressive energy savings, and reduce their carbon footprint.

What is the Energy Savings Scheme (ESS)?

The ESS is a government initiative that aims to deliver cost-effective energy savings for NSW households and businesses. Since its launch in 2009, the scheme has supported projects projected to save 48,000 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy by 2033. As of December 2022, the ESS has already reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 23 megatonnes—equivalent to the emissions from the NSW transport sector in 2020.

Key Updates in 2024

The latest Energy Savings Scheme Rule, published on May 24, 2024, and commencing on June 19, 2024, includes significant updates to enhance energy savings and streamline processes:

  • Refrigerated Cabinet Activities: Incentives for new refrigerated cabinet activities have been suspended, and lifetime savings for these activities have been reduced.

  • Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS): The high-efficiency pool pump activity has been aligned with the PDRS to ensure consistent energy savings.

  • Air Conditioners for Businesses: The energy savings methodology has been updated to reflect real-world usage.

  • Hot Water Systems: New baselines and calculations have been introduced for residential and small business hot water systems to better capture actual energy savings.

For more detailed information, refer to the May 2024 update position paper and the December 2023 position paper. Additional resources, including consultation papers and webinar recordings, are available on the ESS website.

Why Choose the ESS?

  • Cost Savings: By participating in the ESS, businesses can significantly reduce their energy costs.

  • Best ROI: The financial incentives provided by the scheme ensure a high return on investment for energy-efficient projects.
